Therapy and Facility Dog Updates
By Barbara McKown and Mary Skrabucha
What are you doing on vacation?
In the Therapy Dog world, our school programs are on summer hiatus. So, we asked some of the volunteers that work in the school programs what their summer plans are. Many of our volunteer teams are certified with a national or local therapy dog organization and they plan to do therapy visits or are with Crisis Response and are on standby.
A first for us, we were invited to do our educational outreach at the San Diego Fair. Several of our therapy teams will be ambassadors at the Pawsitive Teams booth at the Fair in Del Mar. They will be sharing information & answering questions about our programs. A few photos are below!
Quite a few teams will be working in the CICR, Probation Department & San Diego Center for Children programs & the Court program. Many people are taking rally, obedience, or agility classes. One pup is taking sheep herding lessons! So, no vacation for any of them.
But a few teams will be traveling, attending a dog party at a dog water park, or going to the beach. A couple of people said that they do not have any plans other than relaxing, taking walks, and playing ball with their dogs.
Pawsitive Teams’ Facility dogs Bear, Ollie, Cork, Sandy, and Duchess all will continue to work over the summer. No summer break for these five hard working pups!! Daisy and Charlie have a break from school life and plan to relax and get ready as school starts in August. Rudder and Duke are preparing to begin their school life in August as well. Rudder is getting used to having a human brother, and Duke is moving to a new house with a big back yard that he will enjoy breaking in!
We hope your summer includes furry, sunny memories like ours.
